Job description
The teacher provides instruction in academic subjects as well as skills coaching. They work with an interdisciplinary team to provide support and supervision for program participants in reaching their academic, personal, and vocational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction to socially marginalized and/or economically disadvantaged young women (ages 18 25) whose schooling has been interrupted
- Cover primary-level subjects: English, math, history, social science, computers, health etc.
- Create and implement structured lesson plans based on Academy curriculum
- Use supportive, hands-on learning practices to foster confidence, critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in students
- With inputs from team, create and follow detailed plan for each student
- Provide attention and adaptation to meet learning needs of individuals with varied ability levels, learning styles, and interests
- Consistently and carefully track student progress and outcomes
- Regularly review and revise educational plans with participants to keep them on track and motivated
- Help students prepare for NIOS exams
- Actively use, and support students in using, technology-based learning tools
- Contribute to development of program curriculum and activities
- Assist in planning and facilitating workshops and skills training
- Proactively identify students knowledge gaps and learning needs
- Mentor participants and coach them in identifying and expanding their strengths, interests, and goals
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Bilingual English/ Hindi required, Marathi helpful
- Familiarity with CBSE, ICSE, and US Common Core
- Commitment to teaching students how to think independently and ask questions not only facts and memorisation
- Interest in working with non-traditional students
- Completion of teacher training
- BA degree or higher
- 2+ years teaching experience
- Can use and creatively adapt effective methods for classroom management and group facilitation
- Comfortable with technology
- Energetic and innovative
- Eager to serve as a mentor and role model as well as an instructor
- Actively seeks resources from the outside community, online, and elsewhere to support your growth as a teacher as well as techniques for enhancing student learning
- Counselling experience not necessary but should be sensitised to the experiences and needs of disadvantaged students
- Experience teaching teens or young adults preferred
- Passion for empowering women
